In addition, I think another trademark part of Lofi is that there are often a lot of frequencies "cut" from the mix at certain parts, a lot of the higher frequencies in general, but it is a bit more complex than that. This video doesn't really cover that much, but I think it is an integral part of most Lo Fi, and is a particular production technique that could be easily overlooked. The type of sidechaining for Lo Fi is pretty heavy, and it also has a long duration, so pretty much, as the kick hits, there is this long, drawn out type of vacuum in the rest of the music that encompasses the kick - especially in relation to the primary melody(ies). Pretty much all the sounds are sidechained in a very particular way to the kicks, sometimes with even a white noise / crackle added in the same channel as the kick, or elsewhere (that is not being sidechained). Not bad, but one of the main things that I think gives most Lo Fi the certain vibe that it has, is a very intense sidechain.
